Highlights of Savour!’s Eco Enzyme Workshop Engagement with Yuhua CC for Digital Chingay 2021
On Saturday, 23th January 2021, Savour! was engaged by Yuhua Community Club to host an external Zoom workshop as part of their Digital Chingay 2021 celebrations. Around 20 elderly participants participated and learnt how to do Eco Enzyme Fermentation to reduce food waste from one of our merchants, The Eco Statement. It is a local social enterprise that curates sustainable products alongside holding events and talks related to sustainability.
To start off the session, the workshop co-host, Kexin from the Savour! team, shared in chinese with the participants on her personal experience with Eco Enzyme (EE), what exactly are EEs, and how exactly can we use EEs in our daily lives.
Unknown to many of the participants, eco-enzymes are also known as “Garbage Enzyme”. It is the solution produced by fermentation of wet waste mainly from these 3 sources — kitchen waste (fruit and vegetable scraps/peels), sugar (any kind of sugar, the cheaper the better!), and lastly, water.
3 ways to use EE in your household
4 relevant and important benefits of eco-enzymes
- Natural cleaning agent
- Decreases the amount of household waste going to the landfill
- Decreases or avoids the nasties going down the drain and contaminating the waterways
- Re-use the milk bottles/ snack bottles as EE lengthen its shelf life
In the main part of the workshop, participants were taught how to make and collect their own EEs at home. The materials required are:
- air-tight plastic containers
- sugar,
- fruit peels
- paper and scissors
- a marker
The key stages for making your home-based EE are as such:
- Mix the water, peels & sugar in the ratio of 10:3:1
- Give it a good stir and write the date of mixing on the bottle
- Leave it to ferment for 3 months
2 lucky winners who answered all the questions correctly during the Q&A segment also walked away with a bottle containing the eco-enzyme fermentation each.
Once again, Savour! would like to thank our participants from Yuhua CC for their time and effort in learning how to harvest EEs with us in this workshop. We would also like to extend our gratitude to our customer, Yuhua CC, for engaging us to conduct this workshop and merchant/co-host, The Eco Statement, for providing us with the valuable information on how to harvest EEs.
Apart from just offering custom corporate procurement of products, Savour! is also able to offer custom corporate procurement of services.
